You know you're just humming along in your job or your career, day after day, doing a good job, maybe for a few years or maybe for a few decades. You probably faced and overcame several challenges some tough times, some uncomfortable situations and maybe increased demands, especially since COVID, but stepped up when needed, worked through whatever was asked with your best efforts needed, work through whatever was asked with your best efforts. You're a solid performer, dependable, a great employee. You always manage to get the job done right and, like the vast majority, you probably know your job well. You usually know what to expect on a daily basis, and this is what we call being in your comfort zone.

Rick:

We aren't really growing, expanding our knowledge or skill set, probably not making much of an impact on our chosen industry, but nonetheless we're content and willing to keep doing what you've been doing for a few more years or maybe a few more decades. But then one day it happens out of the clear blue, without warning, disruption or a major shift. Maybe it's a sudden closing of the business, an acquisition by another company, possibly a mass layoff or restructuring or a reduction in workforce they call it these days. But there you are suddenly without the job that you were doing before. The rug pulled out completely from under you and you're jobless. I know it happens to lots of people, but when it happens to you it can be more devastating than you can imagine. All these emotions come flooding in shock and stress, anger, a feeling of loss, a feeling of embarrassment, frustration and a lot of fear.

Rick:

It's almost always unexpected and not something we ever prepare for, because we tend to overvalue our own worth, don't we? They couldn't possibly run this place without me, or they couldn't replace me, or nobody has the experience that I do, or basically, they need me more than I need them. Well, surprisingly, sometimes we're wrong. They actually can and will do it without you. Now there are several phases you will go through when something like this happens. You may not experience all of them, nor not in the same order, but based on others I've talked to, this has happened to as well as my own personal experience. This is pretty much how things progress. After the initial hangover from your celebration or your pity party, the first thing we experience is self-reflection. That's where we really start asking ourselves questions like why me? Why now? Was it something I could have prevented or avoided? Do I need improvement in certain areas that I didn't realize? Or was I even happy doing what I was doing? You may go back to other times in your life where you lost a job or had a failure in your career, and you can start trying to tie those things together and connect the dots, but I'm telling you, don't waste your time. This more than likely has no ties to your past or your past performance, it seems. Once you ask yourself and marinate on these questions a little bit, you'll eventually come to something we would call acceptance. Well, it is what it is right. I know I can't change the past. I'm going to have to figure out another plan or another source of income. Now might be the perfect time for me to make a shift. Hey, what are my strongest skills and talents anyways? And a great question to ponder is one from Jim Rohn what is my value in the marketplace Now? To be fair, this whole period of self-reflection and acceptance can take a while, some much longer than others. But be warned short-cutting or bypassing this part can absolutely hurt you in your next move. So be sure to give it the time needed to answer the questions honestly. It'll be worth it going forward. Where do I go from here? Honestly, it'll be worth it going forward. Where do I go from here?

Rick:

So what are my options? Should I look for another job doing basically what I've been doing, or is there something better out there that more suits my skills and talents? Is there possibly something that better aligns with my purpose or is more fulfilling? Like Tony Robbins quotes, success without fulfillment is failure. Maybe I'm too limited and just stuck with what I know and what I did before. Well, here's a hint that's total bullshit. Nobody's limited in learning something new, and this is where our limiting beliefs can start popping up and holding us back, preventing us from moving forward.

Rick:

Limiting beliefs are the false ideas we have in our minds that can keep you playing small, playing safe, doubting your abilities, minimizing your chances of a more successful outcome. But they're also completely avoidable if we take the necessary steps to eliminate or crush our own limiting beliefs. And just for a little clarity, here's a few samples of what limiting beliefs sounds like. Here's some common ones Fear of failure, fear of success, fear that we're not good enough to achieve what we want, fear of not being loved or being unlovable, fear of rejection, usually leading us to avoid relationships, or being a people pleaser, having negative attributes assigned to being rich or having money. You know like rich people are always assholes, or rich people are always inconsiderate or whatever. And there's some limiting beliefs about your self-worth as well.

Rick:

I'm a failure. I can't make things happen. I don't deserve a better life. Things just don't work out for me. You know it's all my parents' fault, or my spouse's fault, or my kid's fault, or my boss's fault. It's always somebody else's fault, isn't it? That's just my luck. What about this one? Who am I to have everything I've ever wanted? It's crazy talk, right, but that's what we do to ourselves. If you're looking for a competitive edge for your business or a more effective jumpstart to your personal development in 2024, I'll make your first step super simple.

Rick:

It is a fact that an incredible number of the most successful business owners, nearly half of the Fortune 500 companies, top-earning professional athletes, entertainers and industry leaders like Microsoft's Bill Gates, former President Bill Clinton, richard Branson, amazon's Jeff Bezos and Salesforce's Mark Benioff all have one thing in common they all have at least one coach and some have several that they work with on a consistent basis, someone that helps, guide, mentor and support them, challenge them, help them set and achieve goals that move them forward and then hold them accountable to follow through driving personal and professional growth. Working with a coach has many substantial benefits. Just for an example, 80% of coaching clients report improved self-esteem or self-confidence thanks to coaching, 99% of individuals and companies that hire a coach report being very satisfied and 96% would do it again. If, deep down, you know it's time to make those improvements in your business or your personal life that you've kicked down the road year after year. If you're tired of knowing there's a better version of you waiting to shine, but unsure of how to bring that version to light. If you're tired of wanting to enjoy a more successful business but not sure how to start. And if you don't want to go another 12 months without better results, but you don't want to go it alone, then take the first step. It's super simple. Sometimes talking to the right person can make all the difference. Go to wwwrixelovercom contact and I'll set you up with a free consultation. Call with me to see if one-on-one coaching is right for you. Listen, I've done a few previous podcasts on that subject that can help walk you through that process step by step.

Rick:

But once you start eliminating those beliefs and actually start believing that you are capable of more, then the next step is to boldly move in a new direction. Now, unless you married into or were born into a family that has money, or you're old enough to comfortably retire in what social security pays out, which most people aren't, you'll probably still need to do something that generates some income. Now, the great thing is this doesn't necessarily have to be another traditional full-time job. No, there are so many more options in the current digital economy than you could believe. For example, you could try to monetize a talent or hobby that you enjoy, get paid to teach others through an online business, or share what you've learned through your years of work in a specific field to help others through a digital coaching program, or start an Amazon seller account or a Spotify selling platform. There are literally thousands of opportunities I discovered along my journey that can cost little to nothing to start and produce incredible incomes. Here's a little known fact. Did you realize? There's over 1,500 millionaires created every single day. There's no reason why you can't be one too.

Rick:

You can also use your previous experience in a particular industry and apply that to a different sector of the industry. We are fortunate enough to live in a time where there's just more job opportunities than people to fill those open positions, and having some experience in the same or similar industry makes it much easier to land a new gig. Best way to look at it is like this Somewhere there's a great company in need of someone exactly like me. Well, might as well be me right. So decide which path to follow Starting your own business or going to work for a great company that you would enjoy working for. It really doesn't matter. Whichever feels right for you, but either way, once you decide, go all in 100% Time to embrace the shift.

Rick:

Forget about what happened in the past. Listen, the past is gone and you can't change it. There's nothing you can do about it. Accept that you are no longer staying in limbo, living unsure of your future, afraid of any financial setbacks. Be sure to remember your earning power, potential, but that you are moving forward and you will need to put maximum effort into a fresh start, whether you're on your own or on a new business, and look positively towards your future and get excited for what's yet to come for you.

Rick:

Will it be easy? Probably not. Don't plan on it, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy, right? Will it be uncomfortable? Well, it absolutely should be. Starting a new business venture or a new position in a new job should be very uncomfortable. But please remember, growth only happens when you're out of your comfort zone. So being uncomfortable is good Chances are. The underlying comfort zone you've been working in was the reason life or, if you want to call it, the universe or God or whatever you believe in triggered this shift to begin with. We are all meant to grow. Sometimes powers beyond us need to give us that little nudge to remind us of that. If your shift is not uncomfortable, you probably shot a little too low and did a disservice to yourself. So be sure your next move scares you a bit.

Rick:

Look at the end of the day, I feel if you're truly blessed to be doing on a daily basis what you absolutely feel you were put on this earth for, you excel at and you enjoy it. It positively impacts others and it fulfills you completely, then I don't believe you'll ever experience this type of shift. Just look at an example of so many great artists and musicians, sculptors, actors, teachers that we've known over the years that are doing exactly what they should be doing without a doubt. Right, it would stand to reason. The rest of us just haven't discovered that certain thing yet that we are destined to do.

Rick:

But until then, we may get the occasional nudge from a higher power, a shift in what we should be doing for a profession. So when that happens, don't get upset, don't despair, don't retreat to a smaller version of yourself and don't give up. You need to rise up and embrace the shift. It may just lead you to where you should have been all along. Well, that's all I had for you today. Thanks again for tuning in. I really appreciate your support and I hope you have a great week.
